Michelle Theriault Ready to Tackle Pocono Raceway
Looking to qualify for second race of 2010 season
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 28, 2010) - Michelle Theriault has one race under her belt this season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) and is looking to make it two-in-a-row at Pocono Raceway for the Pocono Mountains 125. Theriault made her 2010 debut in the No. 48 ProGold Lubricants Chevrolet last weekend at O'Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) and looks to carry that momentum to the 2.5-mile triangle.
"Having the opportunity to get in the truck for two consecutive weeks will obviously give me more confidence, but I haven't raced a full race now in two seasons. I'm still getting situated again. I was very pleased with how we jumped in the truck last week and within the first practice were running speeds that were good enough to qualify into the race. That's essentially going to be my goal this week- make sure we have a time that is comparable to the other drivers by first practice and then the second practice we can maybe work on some qualifying runs and work on gaining more speed."
Pocono Raceway is not like any other track on the schedule. Known as the "tricky triangle," Pocono Raceway has three distinct turns set to challenge drivers. The track is sure to challenge every driver in the field as the NCWTS makes their debut at the 2.5-mile triangle. Theriault knows she has her work cut out for her, especially being a rookie needing to qualify for the race on speed.
"I'm going to go out in the first practice and try to get behind some of the veterans to figure out the line and get a feel for it that way. This is the first truck race here and with the qualifying change it's more of just getting acclimated to a new race track, and I want to keep building speed throughout practice and get as much seat time as possible."
Theriault is set to hit the track at Pocono Raceway on Friday, July 30 at 8:00 a.m. for the first of two NCWTS practice sessions. Qualifying begins at 10:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, July 31 with live green flag coverage of the Pocono Mountains 125 beginning at 12:30 p.m. EST on SPEED.
Michelle Theriault and the No. 49 ProGold Chevrolet Fast Facts:
Pocono History: Michelle Theriault will not be the only driver navigating the "Tricky Triangle" for the first time this weekend as the NCWTS makes their first-ever stop at Pocono Raceway.
ProGold Pro: Theriault is more than a ProGold Lubricants brand ambassador; she's now also an employee. After most recently working for Speedway Motorsports' US Legends Cars International as their communications manager, she took a position with the Atlanta-based lubricant company.
Last Time on Track: Michelle Theriault made her 2010 debut at O'Reilly Raceway Park last weekend. After qualifying into the field on speed, the 24-year-old rookie driver drove to a 32nd-place finish after overheating issues ended her day early.
A Female Field: Last weekend the NCWTS saw a field filled with three female drivers. This weekend fans will still have their fill of female drivers as Theriault will again be attempting to join NCWTS Jennifer Jo Cobb in the field of 36 drivers.
